Compliance
Ensures the organisation is in compliance with its outside regulatory and legal requirements as well as internal policies and bylaws. Ignorance of legal framework and requirements often lead to unforeseen problems. One cannot ignore the requirements nor try to operate within a vacuum. This can lead to fines, penalties and even criminal prosecution.
- Proper record keeping and record retention is required as support
- Policies, procedures and controls must be in place to:
- Safeguard the assets of the organisation
- protect the employees
- Protect the environment
- Promote customer safety

It is also important to obtain the correct assistance and service providers: when in need of heart surgery, one does not engage the services of a person with a diploma in first aid. In too many instances advice from inadequately trained and inexperienced service providers have caused serious problems. We have encountered many comments that “the Receiver of Revenue will pay for this” or that “our managing agent will attend to this”. It must be remembered that accountability cannot be delegated.
